Salary Affordability Netherlands: Net Pay Left After Rent
Estimate how much of a Dutch net salary remains after an illustrative rent in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, or Eindhoven.
Quick answer: start from your annual package including 8% holiday pay, convert it with the same net-pay engine as the homepage calculator, then subtract an illustrative rent. What remains is a planning leftover for other costs — not a full budget.

What this tool measures
This page answers one practical question after you know your net salary:
After an illustrative rent in this city, how much is left in a regular month?
It does not include groceries, insurance, transport, childcare, or savings targets. Those vary too much by household to pretend a single “can I live here?” score is universal.
Planning cities and rents
Default rents are dated planning inputs for a single adult. They are not city averages or live listings:
| City | Planning 1-bed rent / month |
|---|---|
| Amsterdam | €1,850 |
| Utrecht | €1,450 |
| Rotterdam | €1,350 |
| The Hague | €1,400 |
| Eindhoven | €1,250 |
Use the custom-rent toggle when you already have a listing or quote.
How leftover labels work
| Leftover after rent | Label |
|---|---|
| Under €400 | Tight |
| €400–€1,199 | Manageable |
| €1,200–€2,199 | Comfortable |
| €2,200+ | Flexible |
These are product planning labels, not CBS or Belastingdienst categories.
